NVIDIA - non-prosecuted criminal practice
I state here that NVIDIA Corp. is a criminal body, non-prosecuted due to some triple approach of US justice to corporate crimes.
The NVIDIA crime is it's approach to distribution of "SLI technology" - I do not mind the idea in general, would even say that this is a good idea. BUT! SLI technology has nothing to do with NVIDIA other hardware - it is a pure software solution and, as such, may nicely run on ANY chipset.
NVIDIA has added some code to the drivers, that prevent SLI realization on non-NVIDIA hardware, forcing the end-users to buy only NVIDIA hardware or,
as the case with Intel X58 chipset, pay them for inclusion of "licensed" solution into NVIDIA drivers. This is a serious crime by USA legislation - but where is the USA Department of Justice or any other structure concerned?
NVIDIA approach to professional market may not be called a crime, but an unfair approach. Except for hardware-depended color depth difference (color depth switching may be easily implemented on hardware level) and installed or not stereo output all the differences are in software. I do not mind if NVIDIA would sell professional drivers separately - this would be fair - but they would not cost then over $2000 - the difference they demand from professionals for otherwise outdated hardware (well, latest AMD FireProPro cards shows the real additional cost to be at about $50-100)! And they do not allow others to produce better than their solutions (really, ALL "third-party solutions" are produced by NVIDIA only) - and this is a criminal attempt to make the monopolized market looking as "competing".
